Our client, a national and respected Children’s Charity are looking to recruit a Family Support Worker to work for their Birmingham based Early Help Service which works specifically with children with Autism (or those going through an autism assessment) and their parents/ carers.
The services support vulnerable families with children aged 0-25 years and supports them with parenting, advice and guidance, respite care and coordinating/connecting families with local community resources.
The service aims to enable families and young people with autism to better understand the diagnosis and develop strategies to manage behaviour. All services are developed in partnership with parent, carer and the children themselves.
You will be providing short-term home-based autism programmes (Cygnet Parenting Programme) to children and their parents/carers/siblings, to enhance carer's skills and abilities and thus improve family functioning.
You will be working in closely partnership and collaboration with the families/ carers, Social Services, Schools and local charities to ensure the family’s needs are catered to and that they have access to all relevant support.
Essential Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge, understanding and skills in working with children and young people with Autism
- Working knowledge/ awareness of PECS and/ or Makaton
- Experience of working with parents/ families either on a 121 basis or through delivering group programmes
- Experience of working with children with autism/ a sound understanding/ knowledge of autism
