Floating Support Worker
Role: Domestic Abuse Floating Support Support (Eastern European Service)
Based: PAN London Floating Support Service (Croydon, Merton and Sutton)
Rate: £16 umb

Duration: Temp until March 2025
Hours: 35 hours per week HYBRID (mostly remote – travel to see clients)
Our client, a specialist Domestic Violence charity, is looking to recruit a Floating Support Worker who will support the Ascent Pan London Service in building sustainable referral pathways and joint working protocols with a range of partners working with survivors of domestic abuse.
Synopsis of duties:
- Providing practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse and other forms of violence and abuse in accordance with philosophical principles. This will include conducting key work sessions on a regular basis and keeping casework records up to date.
- Establishing the risks to and the needs of survivors of domestic abuse and other forms of violence and abuse, through enabling women to assess and manage risk to their own and their children’s safety.
- Developing and delivering individual support and risk management plans to address the risk of harm to survivors of domestic abuse and other forms of violence and abuse, and to ensure that such plans are in place for every client.
- Ensuring that any issues in relation to safeguarding children or vulnerable adults are brought to the immediate attention of the Service Manager, or if unavailable another manager.
- Working in partnership with other agencies and to advocate for survivors to ensure their needs are met.
- Assessing benefit requirements of women escaping domestic abuse and other forms of violence and abuse and to ensure prompt take up of housing and other benefits.
- Ensuring that survivors are aware of their rights to legal protection for themselves and their children, and to arrange for the provision of legal advice as required and accompany women to appointments if appropriate.
- Preventing future homelessness amongst survivors of domestic abuse and other forms of violence and abuse and their children.
- Recognizing, respecting and addressing the needs of service-users who face particular barriers when seeking help to access the service, including those from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, LGBT communities, disabled people, women with complex needs and other hard to reach groups.
- Delivering talks and presentations to external agencies to increase local understanding of the needs of domestic abuse survivors.
- Being an ambassador, working in partnership with other agencies to ensure an effective, coordinated community response to survivors of domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse and their children.
- Providing statistical monitoring or reports as required. Ensuring that the views and experiences of women and agencies are sought actively and inform the development of the service.
- Reporting any problems/difficulties/complaints to the services manager and participating in follow up investigations as required.
- Promoting and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of self and others in line with Safeguarding. Adult and Children Policies, Health & Safety Policy, together with any other requirements aimed at keeping people safe from harm
Essential Requirements:
- Knowledge and understanding of the gendered nature of Domestic abuse
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing survivors who have experienced domestic abuse and/or sexual violence.
- An understanding of the impact of multiple, intersecting oppressions (e.g., sexism, racism, homophobia, ableism, etc) and the consequent barriers for some survivors of domestic abuse to accessing services.
- Knowledge of options for and rights of survivors experiencing Domestic abuse
- DBS dated within the last 12 months or on the update service
