We are seeking an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate to provide high-quality, survivor-centred advocacy and support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse who are assessed as being at high risk, as well as their children.

Working from the point of crisis, the post holder will support survivors to improve safety, access services, and navigate complex systems. The role also contributes to strengthening the ability of partner agencies to identify, challenge, and respond safely to all forms of gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, sexual, financial and emotional abuse, forced marriage, so-called honour-based abuse, and female genital mutilation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver practical and emotional support to survivors of gender-based violence and their children, using effective casework principles and advocating to ensure their needs are met.

  • Assess risk and need, identifying and prioritising those at the highest risk of harm.

  • Create and implement tailored support and risk management plans, working closely with partner agencies and contributing to coordinated responses through MARAC.

  • Advocate confidently, both verbally and in writing, across a range of settings including civil and criminal courts and with criminal justice professionals.

  • Work collaboratively with statutory and voluntary agencies, maintaining an independent, survivor-focused approach that keeps safety at the centre of all planning.

  • Act as a representative and ambassador for the service, supporting a coordinated community response to gender-based violence.

  • Escalate safeguarding concerns relating to children or adults at risk promptly to the VAWG Service Manager or another appropriate manager.

  • Support survivor empowerment by helping individuals understand the dynamics of abuse and regain control over their lives.

  • Deliver presentations and informal training sessions to external agencies to raise awareness and improve local responses to gender-based violence.

  • Undertake regular case reviews with the line manager, using ongoing risk assessment to inform action planning.
