Role:                CAPVA Behaviour Change Practitioner (Child and Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse)
Location:         Merseyside
Contract:         Permanent
Hours:             30 hours per week (flexible working pattern to be agreed)
Salary:             £29,600 FTE

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist domestic abuse service for a CAPVA Behaviour Change Practitioner to join an innovative, trauma-informed, whole-family response supporting families where a child or adolescent (aged 8–18) is using harmful, violent or controlling behaviour towards a parent or caregiver.

This role requires a highly trauma-informed, flexible and adaptive practitioner who understands the impact of lived experience, learned behaviour and relational trauma on young people’s behaviour. There is no one-size-fits-all approach – you must be confident tailoring your work to meet each child’s individual needs, developmental stage and emotional capacity.

About the role
You will deliver structured, purposeful behaviour change work while remaining responsive, creative and child centred. The role balances safety, accountability and compassion, supporting young people to understand boundaries, regulate emotions and make safer choices, while strengthening family safety and confidence.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead coordinated, trauma-informed behaviour change work with young people and their families
  • Deliver flexible one-to-one and group sessions that adapt to each child’s needs, learning style and emotional regulation
  • Address harmful behaviour through work on boundaries, accountability, emotional regulation and safety
  • Advocate for families in multi-agency settings and provide professional challenge where CAPVA dynamics are misunderstood
  • Support parents and caregivers to understand behaviour through a trauma and learned behaviour lens
  • Maintain clear, analytical case records evidencing risk, progress and professional decision-making
  • Identify patterns, escalation and hidden risks, responding proactively and thoughtfully

Creative and developmental focus

  • Design, test and adapt creative tools, activities and resources to support engagement and learning
  • Translate complex trauma, behaviour and relational concepts into accessible, age-appropriate content
  • Contribute ideas, innovation and problem-solving to strengthen early intervention pathways
  • Support service development, events and practice learning opportunities

We are looking for someone who

  • Works from a trauma-informed, child-centred and non-judgemental approach
  • Understands learned behaviour, emotional development and the impact of trauma on behaviour
  • Is flexible, adaptable and able to change approach based on each child’s needs
  • Has experience supporting young people and/or families affected by domestic abuse, exploitation or safeguarding concerns
  • Can remain emotionally regulated, reflective and calm in complex or challenging situations
  • Is proactive, curious and confident working independently while valuing partnership working
  • Experience in CAPVA, Youth Justice, CSE, County Lines, exploitation, early help or family intervention settings is highly relevant. Creative practice, group work or resource development experience is desirable but not essential.

What is on offer

  • Comprehensive induction and accredited training aligned with behaviour change practice
  • Ongoing supervision, CPD and specialist domestic abuse training
  • Opportunities to contribute to conferences, events and practice development
  • A values-led, supportive working environment with a strong focus on quality and safety
